Tomas continues: "Interest in health robotics and rehabilitation is growing all the time, and robotics as a form of treatment is advancing in many areas around the world, not least here in Europe. Within rehabilitation and assistive aids, the previous boundaries are gradually eroding, to the benefit of society, health care providers and patients. We are facing a paradigm shift where rehabilitation using the latest technology, such as in health robotics, is being extended to both clinics and the home environment and then, where necessary, integrated as a permanent aspect in ADL (Activities of Daily Living) contexts or as work aids. The savings can be seen as a significant gain for society at large in the form of more effective treatment, shorter hospital stays and the opportunity for a more active life. In particular, demographic trends pose new demands on health and social care services, requirements that in part can be solved with the help of new technology".
