40 teams formed by students of high schools across the commonwealth participated in the FIRST Tech Challenge, which was held in the University of Virginia.
Robotic kit was given to the participating teams in September 2010. The teams started developing and programming their robots to perform several desired tasks of the contest.
Gail Drake, Professor of Information Technology, has stated that the FIRST challenge enables students to learn teamwork, project presentation, electrical and mechanical engineering. He added that project management is one of the key elements to be considered by the participating teams.
The winning teams of this contest will participate in the world championship, which is scheduled to be held in St. Louis in April.
