Military Robotics Giant iRobot’s CEO Discusses on Deploying Armed Robots

Published on November 30, 2010 at 7:35 AM

US Army has mentioned that safe war can be assured only by deploying military robots. The contractors of the Army are also keen to include additional robots for performing a wider range of tasks including grabbing off snipers to act as unrelenting night patrols.

Joseph W. Dyer, a Former Vice Admiral and Chief Operating Officer of iRobot, has stated that the technician who controls an armed robot remotely, can get a better view of the battleground and he can take time to analyze the situation, without opening fire in hurry at an ingenuous person.

The question of deploying military robots to substitute or complement human warriors is still unanswered. It is due to the fear that robots may be misused by the operators, posing risk to the common people.

Further, adversaries have mentioned that robot soldiers reduce the barricades to warfare and they can probably instigate countries to develop a new scientific weapons race.
