HoomanSamani, an artificial intelligence researcher at the National University of Singapore, is working on a new dimension of robotic intelligence, called lovotics.
Samani's Love Robot
According to this theory, it is possible to foster love between robots and human beings. Samani has produced about 11 research papers on this topic and is working on developing a complex artificial intelligence that mimics psychological and biological systems responsible for establishing love between humans.
Samani infuses his robots with ‘love’ hormones, namelyOxytocin, Dopamine, Endorphin and Seratonin. The hormone level increases or decreases depending on the state of love. The psychological state of the robot is determined by the artificial intelligence built within the robot, as for determining the human state of mind, MRI scans can be used. A combination of these systems creates human psychological and hormonal states that enable robots to express emotions such as happiness, jealousy, disgust and many more. The robot used bleeps, bloops, vibrations, movements and change of LED colour to display its state of mind. Each colour or movement signifies a feeling, like bright yellow light accompanied by fast movements indicates happiness while pink lights indicate love.
Samani has uploaded videos that show various reaction of the robot, which closely resemble the way humans react. The videos show robots growing testy when they are not petted and becoming jealous when interacting with other humans.
