Pick and Place Automated Unit from Schunk Best Suited for High Speed Assembly Applications

Published on December 17, 2011 at 2:28 AM

By Andy Choi

Schunk has introduced a quick Pick and Place Unit, PPU-E30, which does not require any sensitive moving motor cables. The device is capable of working at high speed cycle rates with accuracies of 0.01 mm. Its speed is suited for assembly operations that deal with placing small components.

PPU-E30

The cycle time of PPU-E30 is only 0.58 sec during which it performs switching and gripping operations with a vertical stroke of 40 mm and a horizontal stroke of 120 mm. It is capable of moving masses weighing 2 kg. The utility lines for pneumatic systems, sensors and power supply are plugged into the backside of the stationary connection. The maximum vertical stroke possible with the PPU-E30 is 100 mm and a horizontal stroke of 270 mm and the maximum weight it can move is 3 kg. The design of the device is compact with a narrow housing and the media panel set at the back panel. There are two integrated linear encoder systems for controlling the vertical and horizontal motion and high repeat accuracy. The cantilever arm is controlled by these regulators and the control software is integrated into the unit. The device is set into working by a simple plug and play step.

The pneumatic system consists of a total of six integrated valves, consisting one single air feeding and pneumatic actuators. This arrangement reduces the power consumption and a high value of clock frequency. The device is light weight and economically viable for purchase. The device can be used along with actuators from Schunk. It can also be used with a rotary module and a rotary feed-through as well as sensors.
