AeroVironment has announced that it has been chosen as the global distributor for the automatic target detection software for small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) offered by Australian company, Sentient. The Sentient Kestrel Land MTI Tier I is designed for detecting real time targets from small UAS.
Both the companies spent the past 18 months in integrating and optimising the software with the Ground Control System (GCS) offered by AeroVironment which is presently used in Puma, Wasp and Raven small UAS.
The Kestrel software enables the UAS to detect movement in objects and convey the same through visual mode to the operator of the UAS. Kestrel has the ability to provide immediate visual notifications of potential threats to operators. The small UAS from AeroVironment is presently being used by the military in dynamic and complicated environments. According to the Sales and Marketing manager of Sentient Simon Olsen, Kestrel Land MTI has been installed in various theatres across the world and the immediate cueing facility offered by the software has proven to be useful in several missions.
However, the global licensing agreement between the two companies does not cover the Kestrel Maritime, Kestrel Land MTI Tier II and Kestrel Land MTI Tier III softwares.
Sentient is a partner of the Department of Defence of Australia and is a member of the Defence Recognised Supplier Scheme.
