Tecnalia Research & Innovation will play a key role in transforming the European industry by integrating the capabilities of the robot Hiro, Japan’s most protected national heritage.

The robot Hiro is the first robot that can work side by side with people. The objectives behind brining the industrial robot to the European industry are expanding the capacities of European factories, augmenting the competitiveness of European companies in the global market and improving worker safety. This is for the first the robot crosses the borders of Japan, a pioneer in industrial robotics.
Tecnalia is working on integrating the intelligence of the human being and the qualities of industrial robots because 99% of the tasks can be done more effectively through this combination. Hiro is a social robot, which means that it can work along with people and is programmed to prevent physical contact with human beings by stopping automatically. Worker safety can be improved by making these robots to perform tasks that may cause health hazard.
In the next six years, it is predicted that 60% of the industrial base that carries out final product assembly work will use this kind of robot to complete tasks in production lines. This robotic technology holds potential in a variety of sectors, which include railway, energy, aeronautical, agricultural, beverages, timber, food, plastics, auxiliary, automotive and much more.
Kawada Industries developed the robot Hiro, which has a humanoid look above and a robot’s body in its lower part. It has four eyes in total, of which two eyes are on the face and other two are on each of its hands. Thus, it can execute tasks that are dangerous for human beings. Its lower part has wheels for fast movement as it is developed for industrial applications. The robot’s intelligence is being developed by Tecnalia to perform custom tasks based on the requirement of each industrial customer. Tecnalia is using AIRBUS’ expertise and industrial vision for this development.
