Virginia Spine Institute Performs First Robot-Assisted Spine Surgery

At HCA Reston Hospital Center in Mid-Atlantic Region, the first robot-guided spine surgery procedure was successfully performed by spinal experts at the Virginia Spine Institute, Dr. Thomas C. Schuler and Dr. Christopher R. Good.

Introduced by spinal health care experts, this medical advancement ensures patients with smaller incisions and speedy recovery, minimal exposure to radiation, and increased surgical precision that will lead to minimal risk for revisions or nerve damage.

In the US, Mazor Robotics' Renaissance is a unique robotic guidance product, which is effective for deploying as implantable devices while performing spine surgery. Based on this new technique, Virginia Spine Institute experts can conduct complex spinal reconstructive surgeries and minimally invasive spine surgeries. Every spinal specialist at the Virginia Spine Institute has developed expertise and is skilled in using the Renaissance Robotic system. The experts are double board certified in their preferred specialty of neurosurgery or orthopaedic surgery, besides spinal surgery.
