Quantum Targets PIAP’s Oil Spill Cleanup Robots

Published on July 30, 2012 at 5:42 AM

By Nick Gilbert

Quantum International, an emerging robotics company, has recognized the high market potential of a novel oil-spill cleanup bot developed by Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements (PIAP) in Poland.

The newly developed, clean up robots resemble a mosquito in appearance. The bots have been designed to accumulate offshore oil spills, followed by landing on a spill, and vacuuming up the oil into a floating, removable tank capable of being retrieved by emergency response vessels. These bots can therefore be effectively deployed for drilling and transportation of petroleum in the global energy industry worth trillion-dollars.

According to Quantum CEO Robert Federowicz, PIAP’s robotics designs reflect the simplicity of nature for developing highly-efficient and independent automatons. These cleanup robots have mosquito-like function and are capable of bringing revolution in the worldwide treatment of oil spills. These robots have extensive market potential and the company is anticipating the possibility of assisting PIAP to commercialize more of these innovative machines.

The cleanup robot design is the latest offering in PIAP’s array of robotics innovations and PIAP intends to market these innovations. PIAP focuses on revolutionary new robotics tools that can be used in anti-terrorism applications. At present, Quantum is performing due diligence toward a definitive deal with Poland-based PIAP.

As it competes along with leading robotics companies such as Honda Motor, iRobot, AeroVironment, and Apple as well, Quantum anticipates rapid development.
