Protonex Technology declares unique collaboration for developing oxygen generators that can be ideally deployed within undersea power systems. Protonex’s fuel cell based power systems for unmanned systems are being demonstrated from August 6-9, at AUVSI’s Unmanned Systems North America 2012, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Following a long-term initiative, Protonex has created fuel cell technology-based power systems of increased performance that serve various unmanned platforms such as multiple demonstrations in small UAV and UGV systems. The patented fuel cells of Protonex delivering higher power densities are integrated to these systems. Protonex has proven the features of all-electric propulsion, reliability, and stealth, with increased endurance when compared to traditional battery solutions.

Successful small UAS and UGS platforms have propelled Protonex to extend its fuel cell technology within underwater applications that improve platform endurance. Protonex has designed specific underwater power systems having average power output amounting to 200-2000 W, that depends on incorporating ambient temperature and pressure fuel storage technologies to its patented fuel cell systems.

The patent portfolio of Millennium Cell was procured in 2010 by Protonex. This portfolio highlights the production of hydrogen from sodium borohydride and associated compounds. Protonex now reports the exclusive collaboration with Eric Wernimont, the ex- principal of General Kinetics and the current owner of the associated intellectual property. This collaboration focuses on the design and development of oxygen generation systems that rely on controlled decomposition of hydrogen peroxide.
