Research and Markets has declared that Wintergreen Research’s new report titled "Launchers for Unmanned Aerial Systems and Targets: Market Shares, Strategies, and Forecasts, Worldwide, 2012 to 2018" has been added to its portfolio.

Portable devices enabling remote placement of means to launch self-piloted aircraft serve as launchers for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). These UAS aircraft are capable of handling communications equipment, cameras, sensors, or other payloads. UAVs are small in size compared to manned aircraft. Potential to store and convey affordably, the UAVs increase the demand of portable launchers. The UAS can take off without requiring an airfield. UAVs improve the fighting competence of operational war forces.

Engineering staff have created robust and powerful designs that perform stable operation even in harsh environmental conditions. Modular designs promote interchangeable functions within the same launcher. Modular systems are effective for component replacement rather than absolute overhaul.

Launchers need to be user-friendly, as they may be operated by someone who is not familiar with them. Since the unmanned systems may be located in any place, in-the-field serviceability is essential. Also, quick re-configuration is vital when launchers are deployed for specific situations. Their operation requires expertise in RFI problem solving, weight management, integration of airframe, avionics and payloads, as well as range maximization and optimization of system performance. At present, designing launchers for UAVs/UATs of all geometric configurations and exit velocity is being focused upon.

Launchers are deployed for launching drones (UAVs) that are used in large by governments.

Markets for unmanned aircraft launchers at $118 M last year will attain $1.3 B by 2018. The growth of the market will be encouraged by lighter and affordable drones that remotely carry out aerial warfighter tasks, while promising safety to a human pilot.
