Northrop Grumman, ADASI and AUVSI Support 2013 Innovation Challenge Flying Competition

Northrop Grumman Corporation will hold a press briefing to kick off the 2013 Innovation Challenge Flying Competition in coordination with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Investments (ADASI) and the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI).

The press briefing will provide an opportunity to hear from each participating partner. Following the briefing, media are encouraged to stay to watch the flying competition and interview student competitors and their mentors.

In 2010, Northrop Grumman signed a memorandum of understanding with HCT to develop initiatives related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Innovation Challenge is a result of this collaboration. In addition, ADASI and AUVSI have since joined in supporting this event, signing memorandums of understanding during the International Defence Exhibition and Conference in February.

This is the third UAE Innovation Challenge. Student teams from HCT, mentored by Northrop Grumman engineers, will design, build and fly unmanned aerial vehicles. This year, 11 teams of students from HCT campuses across the UAE will compete. The winning team will travel to Washington, D.C., this August to attend the 2013 AUVSI convention.
