Medical Robotics Giant Adept Technology to Participate in CLARA Project

Adept Technology, a leading supplier of robotics solutions, has partnered with Lyon Civil Hospitals to take part in the Lyon Auvergne Rhone-Alpes Cancer cluster (CLARA) program, to develop an innovative robotic concept for smaller tumors treatment.

Presently, small tumors are identified by means of medical imaging and several biological tests. The CLARA project focuses on developing a new proof of concept in which Adept Viper 6 robot will be deployed to position a therapy probe near  a tumor with the help of a robot offering 3D navigation. This robot is directed by a tracking sensor fixed in the body. The aim of the project is to establish that the 6-axis Adept robot will perfectly place a treatment probe close to a tumor mass, ideal for both laparoscopic and percutaneous procedures.

The success of the CLARA project depends on an expert radiological and surgical Universite Lyon 1 (UCBL) academic team. Their study is focused on focal treatment options and they are highly proficient in Adept technology, experimental procedures and engineering.

Professor Marc Colombel, Head of Surgical Robotics Developments, at Lyon Civil Hospitals and Professor at Universite Lyon 1, has stated that they believe that the device developed will offer a major effect on both economical and curative aspects.

Rush LaSelle, Director of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for Adept Technology, expressed his excitement to be a major participant in creating a technology that assists high-end methods of cancer treatment. He added that this opportunity enables the company to quicken the development of reliable robotic concepts, supporting the medical community to further enhance people’s lives.
