Children at St Mary’s Primary School, Leith, met one of the world’s leading robotics experts and built and programmed their own robots under his supervision.
Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro was invited to Edinburgh through Professor Ruth Aylett of Heriot-Watt University’s involvement with the international ‘Kids Love Robots’! collaboration. Professor Aylett is an expert in human-robot interaction and, working with partners in Sheffield and London, is hoping to excite an interest in robotics among young people.
Professor Ruth Aylett, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Edinburgh school children to see some of the most advanced robotics in the world, face-to-face.
“This workshop is a chance for the children to learn about humanoid robotics – the technology behind it, how they interact with humans and the potential this could have globally.”
Professor Ishiguro is most famous for his humanoid robot – a doppelganger autonomous robot that ‘breathes’, walks and talks just like the professor.
