Bluefin Robotics underwater autonomous vehicles scour the ocean floors around the world looking for items critical to the defense industry, oceanographic researchers, and the oil and gas industry.
FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), an international not-for-profit K-12 organization founded by inventor Dean Kamen to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology, today announced that one of its four K-12 robotics programs, FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC®) targeted to middle and high-school students, has selected a game-changing technology platform beginning with the upcoming 2015/2016 season.
Anyone interested in learning everything they need to know to start a career as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) pilot should make a point to attend a special three-day seminar on “The Fundamentals of UAVs” being hosted by Unmanned Vehicle University (www.uxuuniversity.com) from March 19 through March 21 in New York City at the The Regus Business Center located at 340 Madison Avenue (19th Floor).
Biorobotics researchers at the Institut des Sciences du Mouvement - Etienne-Jules Marey (CNRS/Aix-Marseille Université) have developed the first aerial robot able to fly over uneven terrain that is stabilized visually without an accelerometer. Called BeeRotor, it adjusts its speed and avoids obstacles thanks to optic flow sensors inspired by insect vision. It can fly along a tunnel with uneven, moving walls without measuring either speed or altitude. The study was published on 26 February 2015 in the journal Bioinspiration & Biomimetics.
BZ Media LLC announced today that it has partnered with the CTIA–The Wireless Association® to make it easy for attendees going to CTIA Super Mobility 2015 to also attend InterDrone™, the International Drone Conference and Exposition. Both shows take place September 9th-11th in Las Vegas.
Advancements in sensor fusion technologies with high imaging capabilities to enhance manoeuvrability are quickening the development of unmanned vehicles. The resulting increase in the use of unmanned vehicles will eventually alter the dynamics of the transportation industry.
The U.S. Air Force RQ-4 Global Hawk high-altitude, long-endurance (HALE) autonomous unmanned aircraft system (UAS) had another remarkable year in 2014, with a significant decrease in cost per flight hour coupled with a sharp increase in flight hours. The Global Hawk program has brought the system's cost per flight hour down to the point of being half the cost of the manned alternative. The aircraft also saw close to a 40 percent increase in flight hours from 2013 to 2014.
