UCSF Medical Center is one the top ten hospitals in the US, recognized all over the world for pioneering research, advanced technology and innovative patient care, having been established more than a century ago.
The UCSF Medical Centers in Parnassus and Mount Zion, San Francisco are now adopting superior technology inside the pharmacy. The pharmacy is currently using robots, which count and handle the medications of the patients, all for improving patient safety. According to the hospital, during the pilot phase not even one error had occurred out of the total 350,000 doses of medication, which were prepared during the pilot phase.
The giant robots are placed in a totally sterile environment, and here the automated systems would prepare the medicines such as toxic chemotherapy drugs among others. The hospital’s contention was that the hospital pharmacists would gain more time, which they could utilize for working with patients and doctors on drug therapy.
