ABB has entered into a maintenance and service contract with BP Norway for maintaining of the safety and automation equipment in the oil fields of Norwegian continental shelf.

The contract is worth $ 33 million and spans a period of three years. The agreement comes with an optional clause for extending the contract for two years additionally. The head of ABB’s Process Automation division pointed out that ABB has been offering their services in the automation of oil and gas operations by delivering optimised solutions.
According to the contract, ABB will be responsible for providing expert advice on the maintenance and performance of the safety and automation equipment at BP’s chief oil field operating site. The oil fields are located at Valhall, Ula and Norway. Apart from these sites, ABB will also concentrate on remotely operated site Hod and Tambar Telecommunication systems at Skarv. ABB will work on ensuring optimised performance and the safety of automation systems installed at the oil fields. They will also concentrate in increasing the productive life of the oil and gas fields by targeting an increase in their production volumes, safety of personnel working at the site and also lower the operating costs. Newly introduced functionalities will be tested with the help of the simulation techniques provided by ABB.
