Shinsung Selects Applied’s SmartFactor for Automation

Shinsung Holdings Corp, a supplier of innovative products like highly competent solar photovoltaic cells, has partnered with Applied Materials Inc, a leading provider of Nanomanufacturing technology solutions.

This partnership is aimed at enhancing Shinsung’ production and bringing down its cost factor as the company had expanded its solar production operations in Korea. Shinsung had opted for incorporating Applied Material’ SmartFactory automated system since this system integrates various manufacture lines into a sole virtual production unit, thereby assisting in instantaneous alteration of work- flows for providing reliable factory output.

A spokesperson for Shinsung Holdings has stated that the innovative automation solutions are very significant in delivering highly efficient crystalline silicon solar cells to their global clients. He added that they had selected Applied’ SmartFactory technology since it can provide inexpensive, adaptable and scalable automated solutions that can assist them in streamlining their work- flow.

According to Charlie Pappis, Vice President and General Manager of Applied Global Services, their solar clients are in the process of bringing a dramatic change in terms of scaling up their production and increased cell competence by adopting factory automation solutions. He further added that their company is helping these customers by providing reasonably priced and robust automated systems that are scalable on further business growth without interrupting the current production.

The major features of SmartFactory include pre-included operating scenarios for latest crystalline silicon cell production, inspection of movement of all ongoing work of materials, streamlining production work- flow and providing directions to workers by means of a reliable graphical user interface.

SmartFactory includes Applied E3 technology for scrutinizing and controlling the process. It is the first factory automated system that can interact directly with the manufacturing devices for examining the quality of the factory output and controlling the statistical procedures. E3 technology features active error- recognition, run-to-run process tuning, procedural analysis and addressing crucial needs of solar clients like process optimization and enhancing cell efficiency.
