Soft Robotics Analyzed at NanotechITALY2015

Nowadays, scientists draw inspiration from Nature to design robotic devices. Classical engineering solutions have been replaced by mechanisms arising from the observation of natural creatures.

Bio-inspired robots are usually implemented with biosensors, bioactuators and biomaterials: they increase scientific understanding of the problem domain and possible solutions. Industrial benefits and breakthrough innovations are expected in several fields such as 3D additive manufacturing, wearable rehabilitation/assistive devices or soft surgical/interventional tools. This topic will be dealt with in the session “Soft Robotics” which will be held on Wednesday 25th November 2015 at 4.15 PM (hall 105) in the context of the international conference “NanotechITALY2015”, Bologna, 25-27 November, Convention Center (via Gobetti, 101) inside the CNR Research Area Campus. Among the speakers: Barbara Mazzolai, Center for Micro-BioRobotics, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT); Yong Lae-ParK, The Robotics Institute, Carnergie Mellon University (USA); George Jeronimidis, University of Reading (UK); Matteo Cianchetti, “Biorobotics Institute”, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna; and Nikos G. Tsagarakis, “Humanoids & Human Centred Mechatronics” (IIT). The subject will be analyzed again in “New Trends in Bioinspired Soft Robotics”, Thursday 26th at 9,15 AM (hall 216). Among the speakers: Barbara Mazzolai; Barbara Webb, Edimburgh University (UK); Antonio De Simone, International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA); Jamie Paik, École polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland; Cecilia Laschi, “Biorobotics Institute”, Scuola superiore Sant’Anna; and Marco Urbano, SAES Group.
