iRobot, a leading robotic technology solutions provider, has announced that it has obtained a $7.6 million for supply of 50 numbers of 310 SUGV (small unmanned ground vehicles) tactical mobile robots along with spare parts from the U.S. Army Contracting Command-Warren in Michigan.
The order was given on a new indefinite quantity/indefinite delivery basis contract. The 310 SUGV collects situational awareness in perilous conditions while keeping the soldiers away from harm. Its 35 pound weight makes it perfect for dismounted mobile operations. The 310 SUGVs have normally been used by the explosive ordnance disposal teams, but this set of SUGVs would be utilized by Marines and combat engineers.
According to Robert Moses, who is the President of the Government and Industrial Robots Division of iRobot, the 310 SUGV has demonstrated that it is a rugged, man-portable and user-friendly robot and it comes with a lot of positive feedback about its success on the battlefield. Now, it would be used for performing a broader range of missions. He states that the company was proud to supply more of the life-saving robots for their troops. The SUGV range of vehicles was developed by both Boeing and the iRobot, as per a strategic alliance formed in the year 2007.
