Anyang Nyong’o, the Medical Services Minister of Kenya, was the recently treated by Dr. David Samadi for prostate cancer through robotic radical prostatectomy.
The Minister was very happy with the method and promised to create awareness among Kenyan people about this effective method in fighting prostate cancer. He is currently establishing the African Cancer Foundation in Kenya for reforming the Kenyan perspective of different types of cancer and their treatment methods.
Dr. David Samadi is the Vice Chairman of the Department of Urology and the Chief of Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. He expressed his happiness in the establishment of the African Cancer Foundation and is hopeful of the changes it would make in the lives of Kenyan people. Study show that more number of deaths in Kenya is due to cancer than any other disease. The Cancer Foundation has a daunting task on their hands with road blocks such as meagre information available, lack of awareness and emphasis on early detection and treatment. Cancer is still considered a social stigma amongst many sections of Kenyans. Dr. Samadi considers the Kenyan Minister as one among the growing patient number of ambassadors from other countries who come to the US for receiving treatment for prostate cancer. Robotic Prostatectomy treatment performed by expert physicians like Dr. Samadi is capable of improving the survival rates in prostate cancer.
Dr. Samadi feels that he should be a part of cancer fighting initiatives abroad by sharing his expertise and educating people about all forms of cancer. He also stressed on the importance of surgeons gaining experience in the procedure by performing a number of robotic prostatectomies. He assured of his commitment in working with countries like Kenya and provide them the knowledge and guidance required to become experts in fighting cancer.
