Doctors at Medical Center Plano Perform First Robotic Hysterectomy

The first robotic hysterectomy surgery was performed at the Medical Center, Women Specialists of Plano by Dr. Dennis Eisenberg with Dr. Murray Fox assisting him. Dr. Eisenberg is an expert in performing robotic hysterectomy.

da Vinci Surgical System

The DaVinci Si machine is equipped with an 8 mm camera, which is the smallest that has been used so far for performing hysterectomies. The advantage of using such a small camera is that the size of the incisions that are made on the patient are small, making robot assisted surgery even less invasive than before.

Hysterectomy when performed through conventional methods requires long recovery and healing periods. Robot assisted surgery guarantees high accuracy by using micro-instruments that translate the surgeons hand movements perfectly and ensures quick recovery. The control and precision achieved through the use of robotic techniques is of a high magnitude and with the help of high-definition 3D imaging the surgery is performed by expertly manoeuvring out of the way of sensitive nerves, tissues and blood vessels. Despite its success, robotic surgery is yet to gain popularity for performing gynaecological procedures. Dr. Fox stressed on the effectiveness of robotic surgery and was confident that it will gain due popularity in the near future.
