VIP Breast Imaging has launched an automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) system in Toronto called somo.v. The imaging system is capable of performing diagnosis and screening of breast cancer with the help of sophisticated three-dimensional ultrasound systems.

The process of diagnosis is free from radiation and is safe and comfortable for the patient. Tina Ureten, the founder of VIP imaging claimed that the ABUS system is particularly useful in screening women who have dense breast tissue and she added that it was safe to use on pregnant or lactating women or even post-operative cases.
VIP Breast Imaging also revealed that U-Systems has been awarded the license to sell and market somo.v by the Medical Devices Bureau of Health Canada. The system can be used along with mammography for screening asymptomatic women with cancer in Canada. It is the only system that has been approved by Health Canada for breast cancer screening due to its safety and efficiency for using in Canada. It is also the only ultrasound device, which has been approved for screening breast cancer in as many as 27 countries that are part of the European Union. All the approvals for the system were awarded based on clinical evidence. The ABUS system enhanced the sensitivity of mammography in detecting tumours in women who have dense tissues. When only a mammogram test is done in such women, the tumours are likely to go undetected.
