Naval Research Chief Officer Speaks on Robotic Challenges at Robotic Conference

The Chief of Naval Research Rear Adm. Matthew Klunder will make a presentation on autonomy and other robotic challenges at Unmanned Systems Program Review 2012 of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International.

The conference was held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington on 9th February. Apart from the presentation, the naval research chief also participated in discussions with the academic fraternity and industry experts.

According to Klunder, the Department of Navy is taking great efforts to introduce technology that is cost effective through efficient robotic systems. The Office of Naval Research (ONR) particularly has initiated various programmes to enhance data sharing tools and autonomy in order to provide its marines and sailors with an added advantage when they are on their missions.

ONR has employed 1,400 employees around the world which includes contract personnel, uniformed personnel and civilians and has affiliations with 1035 institutions and 914 industry partnerships. ONR focuses on providing the latest technology to enhance the technological advantage of the Navy and Marine Corps.
