Texas Instruments Collaborates with iRobot for Robotic Innovation

Texas Instruments (TI) and iRobot declared that they have collaborated to develop robotic technologies, based on the smart multicore OMAP platform of TI.

Inspired by the need to bring upgrades to the existing robotic scenario, both companies shared their innovative vision to construct intelligent, applicable robots that can improve people’s lifestyle. Both TI and iRobot will develop new innovations by using iRobot's extensive robotic capabilities and TI's expertise in technologies related to applications processors.

Having over 20 years of expertise in robot industry, iRobot is a well-established technological innovator and supplier of solutions related to automated home maintenance and remote presence. iRobot has so far supplied over 7.5 million home robots globally, bringing new revolution in house-keeping. In addition, it also serves military industry by supplying over 4,500 combat-proven military and industrial robots for global civil defense forces. The robots are capable of performing several hazardous tasks, reconnaissance and bomb-disposal missions. It can efficiently operate in intricate environments, where human movements are dangerous.

As part of the collaboration, TI offers the industry's premier applications processor technology integrated in the OMAP platform, which is an ultra-power-efficient, high performance system-on-chip. The smart multicore architecture in OMAP platform transmits processing tasks to engines and cores that subsequently perform operation with minimal power. This fundamental computing technology is supplemented with other unique features like video accelerators and advanced image.
