Modus Brings New Novatel Wireless MT 3060 to Insurance Telematics Customers Worldwide

Modus™, a world leading end-to-end insurance telematics solution provider, today announced that it will provide the Novatel Wireless MT 3060, the insurance telematics industry’s most advanced and competitively priced OBD II telematics solutions currently available, to Modus customers worldwide.

With the new offering, Modus now offers customers a compelling, scalable growing product line of best-in-class mobile tracking devices at an attractive price point.

As interest in insurance telematics solutions expands from both insurers and those they insure, the role of aftermarket OnBoard Diagnostics solutions cannot be underestimated as a gating factor for industry growth. In fact, the number of subscribers to OnBoard Diagnostics (OBD) aftermarket telematics solutions is expected to increase from 9.5 million in 2014 to 117.8 million in 2019 according to a recent ABI report.

"The MT 3060 is the most advanced, flexible telematics offering available on a global scale," said Joe Peterson, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales for Novatel Wireless. "We packed a lot of industry must-haves into this next generation device and it is built on our award-winning MiFi platform of ultra reliability and usability. Our partnership with Modus demonstrates our continued commitment to offer cutting edge technology in a simple form factor at a price point that makes it palatable for UBI customers around the world to adopt. We are very excited to deliver another solution that simplifies the Internet of Things."

Designed to simplify integration, use and management, the MT 3060 mobile tracking device is a plug-and-play, self-installed solution that can be deployed in minutes by any driver, providing a wealth of diagnostic, maintenance and driving performance information to power commercial and consumer telematics services.

The device collects and controls critical data from the vehicle's on-board diagnostics (OBD-II) port and securely delivers that information to the cloud, supporting all five engine OBD-II protocols. MT 3060 features and exclusive on board crash detection technology, dual accelerometer, and a highly sensitive 3-axis accelerometer for measuring driver behavior, parallel GPS/GNSS satellite location capability and sophisticated technology for impact detection.

This capability enables the MT 3060 to detect driver behaviors, such as vehicle speed, location, hard braking, cornering and impact data, necessary for UBI policy rating, FNOL, reducing future claims and other consumer telematics services. The MT 3060 further optimizes performance with an innovative antenna design and disconnect alert feature using an on-board backup battery.

“Novatel Wireless is pioneering the Internet of Things, connecting devices of all kinds to enhance usability, productivity and safety across categories,” said Brandon Johnson, CEO of Modus. “Incorporating their latest technology into our suite of solutions for customers opens up a world of possibilities for us and our partners. The speed of implementation and ability to build customized solutions, even to the point of adding algorithms to the Novatel Wireless devices themselves, enhances our capabilities exponentially.”
