USPTO Issues New Patent to ClearOne’s Multi-Camera/Multi-Display Video Conferencing

ClearOne, a global provider of audio and visual communication solutions, announced today that it has been awarded a new patent on technology that facilitates multi-camera/multi-display video conferencing.

On February 16, 2016, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ("USPTO") issued United States Patent number 9,264,668 entitled "A Methodology for Negotiating Video Camera and Display Capabilities in a Multi-Camera/Multi-Display Video Conferencing Environment." The '668 patent describes a method for video conferencing systems, equipped with multiple cameras and displays, to communicate with other similarly equipped systems to determine the relative spatial placement of cameras and displays. The technology is further described as a method for the systems to negotiate optimal video layout from cameras onto remote displays.

The techniques described in this patent can help make video conferencing easier to use when dealing with multiple cameras and multiple displays at each endpoint. Without the ability to automatically negotiate placement of far-end video on local displays, setup can be cumbersome, and must be done either manually, during the call, or pre-configured in a fixed way for two given systems. Applications of this patent could include telepresence, virtual reality suites, or surveillance applications involving remote monitoring of multiple video feeds from cameras placed at different locations on drone aircraft or mobile personnel.

This recently awarded ClearOne patent is part of a portfolio that includes 71 patents and an additional 29 pending patent applications covering multiple new technologies in the fields of audio and video processing, audio and video streaming, and communication technologies. This ongoing development of new patents continues ClearOne's market leadership position, strong history of product innovation, and development of cutting-edge technologies.
