The da Vinci Si Robotic Surgery System and Simulator Enables Surgeons Achieve Perfection

Dr. Richard Farnam from the Las Palmas Medical Center has begun using the da Vinci Skills Simulator, a tool that allows Dr Farnam to practice complicated robotic surgeries in a training simulator based on virtual reality, prior to the actual surgery on a patient.

New Collaboration Between Willow Garage and the Healthcare Robotics Lab at Georgia Tech

Robotics research lab and technology incubator Willow Garage has joined the Healthcare Robotics Group in Geogia Tech to foster a program called ‘Robots for Humanity’. The project hopes allow robots to help human being with day to day activities, specially people who suffer from disabilities and are unable to take care of themselves.

NSF Funds New Effort in Robotics, Neuroscience and Electromechanical Devices

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced an $18.5 million grant to establish a multi-institution Engineering Research Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering located at the University of Washington. The center is to be launched this month and will be based in the Russel Hall on the Seattle campus of the University of Washington.

Livingston Robotics Club Offers Robotic Aid for Children with Special Needs

The Livingston Robotics Club (LRC) and Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities (LACD) announced that children with special needs would be offered the ‘Shining Star’ Robotics League. One of the award winning FISRT LEGO League (FLL) team from LRC, comprising four eighth-grade girls is available for mentoring the teams for two to four hours every week.

Kessler Foundation became the first Rehabilitation Center to introduce the Robotic Gait Training System using the LokomatPro V6 in the U.S. It is a sophisticated robotic training system, which is designed to improve mobility in people suffering from spinal cord injury, stroke, brain injury or multiple sclerosis disease and whose movements have been restrained.
