Siemens Acquires Invensys’ Rail Automation Business

Siemens has entered into an agreement to acquire Invensys Rail, the rail automation business of Invensys for approximately €2.2 billion (£1.742 billion). At the same time, the company plans to divest its baggage handling, postal and parcel sorting activities. Both planned transactions are part of the recently launched "Siemens 2014" company program, which amongst others, is aimed at strengthening the company's core activities. With revenues of approximately £800 million, Invensys Rail is a leading software based rail signaling and control company.

Dentsu Announces Expected Date for Completion of Humanoid Communication Robot Development

Dentsu Inc. (TOKYO: 4324; ISIN: JP3551520004; President & CEO: Tadashi Ishii; Head Office: Tokyo; Capital: 58,967.1 million yen) announced today that the humanoid communication robot being developed under the KIBO ROBOT PROJECT, a joint research project being carried out in collaboration with the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, the University of Tokyo (Director: Dr. Yoshiaki Nakano; hereinafter "RCAST") and ROBO GARAGE Co., Ltd. (CEO: Tomotaka Takahashi; hereinafter "ROBO GARAGE"), is expected to be completed in February 2013. In the summer of the same year, it will be sent to the Japanese Experiment Module "Kibo" in the International Space Station.

Siemens Extends Engineering Framework for Automation and Drive Technology

The Siemens Industry Automation division has extended its "Totally Integrated Automation Portal" (TIA Portal) engineering framework with numerous new functions. Version 12 enables all Siemens drives of the Sinamics G converter series to be parameterized via the TIA Portal, and additional diagnostic functions have been integrated. Among other things, the safety functionalities have been extended for Simatic S7-1500 and the Profinet communication performance has been expanded.
