The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District students, under the mentorship of Ninilchik teacher David Patat, are learning the skill of designing and building robots at the Challenger Learning Center.
At Patat's robotics class, students are being taught how to navigate metal and plastic robots through a maze.
The eight-week robotics session conducted by Patat equips high school students to build programmable robots. The Challenger Learning Center helps students to design robots from Vex robot starter kits and attach a robotic arm. Patat expects to develop robots that can move around by themselves, but currently, they are using remote controls to move the robots.
The Ninilchik School's robotics science class has a total of 19 students enrolled in the team. Students are expected to program their robots to pick an eight-ounce glass of water high up and then empty it into a gallon judge. The team that completes the task first will win.
