Five Canadian Teams Participate in FIRST LEGO League World Festival

Students from Canada bagged some of the top awards at the FIRST World Championships and World Festival, which was held in St. Louis, Missouri. Canadian students had to compete with 11,000 international students.

The Sentinels team from Oakville got the Champions’ Award at the FIRST LEGO League (FLL). The team comprised middle school students between the ages of 11 and 14 . Since September 2010, the team had worked on a project on Diabetes. The team has been designing and building a LEGO robot and adhering to FLL’s core values. Around 85 teams, including 5 teams from Canada, participated in the World Festival. FLL comprises more than 17,000 teams spread across 57 countries around the world.

The Rockwell Automation Innovation Control Award was given to the Orchard Park Secondary School’s OP Robotics team, which has developed an advanced control system to deliver exclusive machine functions. The team from Kincardine District Secondary School known as Kinetic Knights team came second in the FRC competition.
