ReconRobotics Signs Contract to Develop Surveillance Robot

ReconRobotics, a company that manufactures strategic, micro-robot systems, declared that it has entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific (SSC Pacific), a Navy research facility.

As per the terms of the agreement, the joint establishment will produce a robot with the capability to ascend up and over the ship’s hull. The reconnaissance robot known as the Recon Scout Throwbot comes equipped with magnetic wheels.

The company believes that the micro-robot could be used in a range of applications including the prohibition of naval piracy and the protection of military personnel operating aboard the ship. SSC Pacific joined hands with ReconRobotics to introduce a prototype of the micro-robot that weighs 1 pound and its original marsupial-robot delivery system. The initial concept was released at the Ground Robotics Capabilities Conference conducted by National Defense Industry Association (NDIA) in Orlando, FL.

The marsupial robot deployment system could be suitable for applications such as HAZMAT investigation and EOD. It allows large robot operators to install and move a smaller robot using an adjustable and ejectable sabot.

Law enforcement and military personnel utilizes the magnetized robot to perform surveillance operations in unsafe surroundings. The magnetic robots are small in size, rugged, multi-functional and easy to use. Built with an infrared optical system, the magnetic-wheeled robot can see in complete darkness.
