GeckoSystems, a company that manufactures advanced mobile robots, declared that they have deported to a new facility, which offers conditions suitable for the ongoing research and development on advanced mobile robotics.
The company will be continuing its R&D in mobile robot solutions for the advancement of wheelchairs to be capable of withstanding collisions. The proprietary mobile robot solutions are also used for making advancements in the recently launched GeckoImager, ChairBot, and AscBot.
GeckoSystems does not have to buy license for the Kinect technology from Microsoft. The company only utilizes Microsoft’s Kinect as a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) technology. This technological approach proves useful for several applications using mobile service robots.
Service robots can function as a domestic help for the disabled and elderly. It can perform various tasks ranging from entertaining to cleaning and remote monitoring. The service robotics market has developed as a result of high labor cost in developed countries and increase in demand for assisted living. The technology must satisfy all safety concerns during interaction with humans as service robots have to be deployed in closer proximity to humans.
