Royal Philips Electronics has launched the IntelliVue MX40 globally. The IntelliVue MX40 is a patient monitor that can be worn by patients especially ambulatory patients and while they are being moved from one place to the other.

The monitor provides the features of the IntelliVue X2 and Philips telemetry in a single package, this equips physicians with better monitoring of patients by keeping risk of infection to the minimum. Patients who cannot be monitored during recovery from surgery or in a progressive care area can be monitored using this system. The time that the doctor and nurses spend with the patient also increases with the use of mobile monitors. Through the monitoring system it is possible to monitor the patient continuously over greater distance ranges in the hospitals and access to the IntelliVue Smart-hopping Network can also be established with the help of a colour touch screen display. The display gives information about the patient’s name and parameters like the ECG, SpO2 and non-invasive blood pressure.

Apart from being able to manage the patient alerts in a more organised manner, the IntelliVue MX 40 also allows for patient monitoring through the central monitoring system of the hospital. The clinicians are provided with local alarms to alert them about the condition of ambulatory patients irrespective of their location in the hospital. The information center of the device provides vital information about the patient’s condition and stores the data. The Information Center can be interfaced with the hospital electronic medical record system. One of the doctors at the hospital mentioned that through the mobile monitoring system they are able to communicate the conditions more efficiently and there has been a drastic cut down on the size of the equipment. The monitor comes with a cleaning and infection prevention mechanism with the help of a patient cable connector which prevents deposition of soil and liquids. The liquid used for wiping is smooth and prevents hospital acquired infections to a great extent.
