Siemens Constructs Automation Engineering Facility in China

Siemens Industry Automation plans to strengthen its position in Asia by constructing a new factory in Chengdu in China and manufacture advanced Simatic controllers and other automation parts at the factory.

The manufacturing operations will start from mid-2013. The ground-breaking ceremony for the factory will take place in February 2012.

Siemens will be able to meet the increasing demand for advanced and energy-efficient automation solutions using the manufacturing technology at the new factory. The head of the Industrial Automation Systems at Siemens pointed out that in order to maintain a lead in the tough competition in the Asian market it was important to produce products of high quality having a lesser turnover time and being cost effective at the same time. The Simatic S7 programmable logic controllers (PLC) will be manufactured at the new factory from the year 2013. Initially the factory will span 3,000 sq.m, which will be further expanded to 10,000 sq.m and will comprise a workforce of over 1,000 that will depend on the market trends in the future. The factory has been affiliated to the Electronics Manufacturing Unit in Amberg, where Siemens has been involved in mass manufacture of the PLC’s. Similar to the trend being followed at Amberg, the factory at China will also be a ‘digital factory’ in which the manufacturing and development units are totally interlinked. This connection between the two departments will ensure high-quality of the product and smooth and optimised delivery.
