Recon Robotics has made the Recon Scout Throwbot LE available for the protection of patrol officers. The Scout Throwbot is a highly advanced micro-robot which has been designed to aid the police patrol officers when they undertake critical and risky missions.
So far, robots have been used by law enforcement organisations in their tactical teams and in bomb detection and diffusing missions. The Throwbot however, will be used for the first time in everyday tasks that the patrol officers undertake such as interrupted robberies, welfare checks, domestic disturbances and searches in confined spaces.
The robot kit is available at an affordable price, unlike other police robots which are much higher cost wise. The Scout Throwbot LE is very small in its size, less than 6 in. in length, with a weight of 1.1 lbs hence it is easy to use and can be thrown up to 50 ft. After it is deployed at the desired location, the operator can control it with the help of a hand held control unit (OCU). The robot captures videos and transmits it to the OCU, the patrol officers use this video to detect hidden threats and gather a good awareness of the situation. The complete robot kit can be accommodated in a small MOLLE bag which can be stowed in the patrol car.
