US-based Bimba Manufacturing, specialising in innovations in the field of actuation technology and the production of rotary actuators, rodless cylinders, linear thrusters, flow controls and position sensing cylinders, has announced that it has extended its sponsorship to the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics Competition (FRC) by providing its pneumatic cylinders.
The FIRST competition is a yearly competition held for charitable purposes where young engineers are required to design, build and program a robot in order to carry out specified tasks. Weeks before the actual start of the completion, volunteer mentors work in collaboration with teams consisting of 25 or more participating students to build robots. The teams are judged on the basis of innovation, creativity and design. Bimba has been part of this competition for the past eight years. According to the President of Bimba, Pat Ormsby, the main purpose behind the company’s participation in the competition is to encourage children in taking an interest in fields such as engineering and fluid power. For the purpose of sponsorship the company is offering three free cylinders which are available in four bore sizes. Bimba caters to original equipment manufacturers and various other specific applications and customers all over the world.
