Intelligent Hospital Systems (IH Systems) today announced that Palmetto Health produced its first medication doses with RIVA, the only fully-automated pharmacy IV compounding system on the market today. The system will prepare high quantities of syringes and IV bags to meet inventory requirements at Palmetto Health, one of the Southeast’s largest and most comprehensive hospital systems.
“We are excited to share in Palmetto Health’s milestone of administering the first patient doses prepared by RIVA,” said Dr. Niels Erik Hansen, president and CEO of IH Systems. “We expect Palmetto Health, like other participating hospital systems, to experience significant cost savings through increased safety, productivity and efficiency in their pharmacy compounding processes.”
RIVA helps hospital pharmacies to prepare specific medication doses in anticipation of orders, which can then be stored for later use. The technology handles extended production runs with no staff intervention required, reducing outsourcing and cost-per-dose of insourced medications. Additionally, RIVA, which is USP<797>-compliant, can process individual or batch doses in an ISO Class 5 environment, and is the only system with true walk-away capability.
Palmetto Health, based in Columbia, S.C., is a non-profit resource recognized for progressive treatment and research methods that have yielded the highest levels of patient satisfaction in the U.S. Each year, nearly a half million patients seek Palmetto Health’s depth and breadth of services – from specialty physicians to state-of-the art technology. Additionally, the hospital system processes more than 3,000 medication orders each day and will leverage RIVA’s high inventory capacity to distribute doses to patients across its facilities.
