A strategic partnership between BAE Systems and Oxford University is all set to release 'Wildcat', an autonomous car without driver. BAE researchers have been working on this project for nearly five years.
They will hand over the driverless car to the University for continuing the ongoing research into robotics, car autonomy and enhancements to be included in the car for making it safe on the roads.
James Baker, Managing Director of BAE Systems, has stated that their company feels happy about providing this technology for the University and its outcomes over the upcoming years are eagerly awaited.
The driverless vehicle is Bowler’s 4x4 offroad production car and has been customized by BAE Systems. Speed of the car is controlled by means of a hotline, which is incorporated into the engine management system. The in-built laser ranging sensors and GPS helps in obtaining commands, movement and also prevent hitting objects. Other features of the car include a computer operated steering servos, an additional brake and wire-free data links.
