Pioneer robotic surgeon of The Mount Sinai Medical Center, Dr. David Samadi has performed six robotic prostate cancer surgeries at the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, Israel. Utilizing his SMART technique (Samadi Modified Advanced Robotic Technique), the doctor demonstrated his surgical skills to Israeli urologists. Three of these successful surgeries were telecast live.
Rambam had recently acquired a da Vinci robot for prostrate removal. Dr. Samadi completed each surgery within two hours, with minimal loss of blood. The doctor worked with Dr. Jacob Ramon of Chaim Sheba Medical Center and Dr. Jack Baniel of the Rabin Medical Center to launch his international effort to share and train other doctors on his robotic surgery skills. Serving as a referral center for eleven Tel Aviv region hospitals, Rambam unifies all medical science fields.
Dr. David Samadi said that he undertook prostrate surgeries with an open laparoscopic background. He added that robotic surgery helped him perform the surgeries in a bloodless field with good visual accuracy. After surgery, 85% of the patients are able to regain their sexual function, while 97% regained urinary control. The robotic surgeon is Mount Sinai’s Vice Chairman of the Department of Urology, and the Chief of Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery. His website www.roboticoncology.com provides in-depth information about robotic prostatectomy and prostate cancer.
