Eight Teams Selected from DARPA Robotics Challenge Trials for $1 Million Funding

16 teams were the main attraction at the DARPA Robotics Challenge (DRC) Trials, where they demonstrated their prototype robots’ ability to perform a number of critical real-world disaster-response skills. DARPA constructed eight tasks at the Homestead Speedway in Homestead, Fla., to simulate what a robot might have to do to safely enter and effectively work inside a disaster zone, while its operator would remain out of harm’s way.

Huge Growth Expected in 2014 for Seegrid Flexible Automated Guided Vehicles

Manufacturing journalist, Thomas R. Cutler, recently reported the increase of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) in the European material handling and manufacturing markets. Cutler, as a guest writer for Seegrid’s company blog, explained that Europe’s economy is recovering; indicated by strong manufacturing data, “The manufacturing sentiment in Europe hit a two year high and the euro zone manufacturing purchasing managers index, which measures monthly sentiment among private manufacturers, hit a 26-month high, the best showing since 2011.”
