Researchers Remotely Control Roaches on Autopilot Using Video Game Technology

North Carolina State University researchers are using video game technology to remotely control cockroaches on autopilot, with a computer steering the cockroach through a controlled environment. The researchers are using the technology to track how roaches respond to the remote control, with the goal of developing ways that roaches on autopilot can be used to map dynamic environments – such as collapsed buildings.

Hollysys Automation Technologies Signs Supply Contract for Ground-Based High-Speed Rail Signaling System

Hollysys Automation Technologies, Ltd. ("Hollysys" or the "Company"), a leading provider of automation and control technologies and applications in China, announced today that it signed a contract to provide its ground-based high-speed rail signaling system to Datong-Xi'an high-speed rail line Yuanping-Xi'an section ("this section") with a designed traveling speed of 250 km/h and a total length of 678.44 km. The contract is valued at approximately US $14.72 million or RMB 90.99 million.

Researchers Test Rover Zoe in Atacama Desert for Future Mars Mission

A film director looking for a location where a movie about Mars could be shot might consider the Atacama Desert, one of the harshest landscapes the planet has to offer. Due to the accidents of its geography, Atacama is the driest place on Earth. Some scientists believe there was no rain to speak of in part of the Atacama between 1570 and 1971. With little moisture in the air its salt lakes, sand dunes and lava flows broil or freeze and are blasted by ultraviolet radiation.
