Westminster’s WiredCats have won the FIRST Robotics Peachtree Regional Championship with its Robot 2415 conducted at the Gwinnett Civic Center.
They were previously awarded the “outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team’s school and community”, an impressive Engineering Inspiration award. This year, the game Logo Motion was conducted with a total of 49 teams participating from seven states, where the teams construct robots from a standard set of components and carry out the tasks. The WiredCats came first after playing 10 matches in one and half days of the competition having lost once during the qualifiers. The Westminster Squad chose the three team alliance being captain and won the regional championship.
The team nominated Rick Shanor, senior in Westminster who won the regional Dean’s List Finalist Award. For this award, a student is honored for his leadership qualities in advancing engineering. These Finalists of the FIRST Dean’s list would compete for the FIRST Dean’s List at the championship. The WiredCats have won the regional chairman’s award, the Engineering Inspiration Award, three Regional Championships and the Rookie Team of the Year during the past four years from when this team was first conceived.
