The technology will assist employees in developing new professional abilities and facilitate content creation and data analysis.

Crucially, Bing Chat Enterprise trains its basic foundational models without using consumer data or prompts. Additionally, Bing Chat Enterprise offers improved security for business data, allowing users to store all information inside the organization and ensuring that chat data is not saved. This indicates that the University can utilize it with confidence, knowing that the security of both the institution’s and the students’ data will not be jeopardized.

Employees will be encouraged to create peer support groups where they can discuss how they utilize the new tool, share ideas, and support one another in making the most of the opportunity. They will also have access to training, support, and guidance on how to use it.

As an educational institution it is our duty to embrace technological breakthroughs such as AI and large language models (LLMs) and to equip the future workforce with the skills to augment their productivity using these tools. One of the strategic objectives in the new Aston 2030 Strategy is to ‘build digital enterprise’ by creating an agile learning organization through digital transformation.

Osama Khan, Professor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Aston University

Khan added, “To achieve this, we need to adopt these new tools in our pedagogy, while at the same time instilling a strong sense of integrity and ethics around their use. I am excited that we are one of the first UK universities to make Bing Chat Enterprise available to our entire academic community. This will help us improve our productivity in research, education and operation.

Nick Hedderman, senior director of Modern Work Business Group at Microsoft UK, added, “We are pleased that Aston University has chosen to implement our new AI-powered enterprise tool, Bing Chat Enterprise, for all its staff. This tool offers features that will provide staff with greater efficiency and new ways to be innovative. As a former student, it brings me great pride to see Aston University continuing to innovate with the use of technology, we look forward working closely together on this digital transformation journey.”
