Bow Appoints Nick Thompson as CEO

The innovative robotics software company and spin-out of the University of Sheffield, BOW, is excited to announce the appointment of entrepreneur Nick Thompson as CEO, coincident with its ambitions to become a global leader in the robotics software industry.

Established in 2020 by Daniel Camilleri as part of his postgraduate research in computational intelligence and robotics, BOW was founded with two-fold vision of removing the technological and programming barriers-to-entry into robotics and connecting robotics to the world of digital infrastructure. The announcement of Nick Thompson as CEO signifies the next chapter in the company’s growth ambitions, as it aims to scale commercially and sit at the forefront of a new, global industry of robotics software.

Nick’s appointment also marks the expansion of BOW’s leadership team, with Daniel assuming the position of CTO and product visionary, while harnessing Nick’s strength in convening and nurturing teams of like-minded, value-driven individuals – both alongside Chairman Peter Hopton, venture builder for deep digital tech start-ups.

Nick, whose accolades  include winning the 2022 LDC Top 50 Most Ambitious Leader award, exiting his international Software Development firm, One Beyond (previously DCSL Software), to private equity for a double digit multiple and leading two major acquisitions, comments: “I am immensely excited at the opportunity for BOW to shape the future of technological advancement in robotics. The robotics software industry is currently very exclusive and complex, and there simply are not enough software developers out there with the skills to make robotics widely accessible. BOW is an agnostic software platform, enabling rapid robot development for the masses.

“Fundamentally, our vision is to create a whole new ecosystem of robotics software that has not existed before, which is really, really exciting."

BOW Chairman, Peter Hopton, comments: “When I initially introduced Nick and Daniel, our intent was for Nick to assume the role of customer-facing CTO, with Daniel as CEO. However, the harmony and trust between the team was such that Daniel chose to reverse those roles, recognising the skills each member of BOW’s leadership could bring to the business. We are delighted to welcome Nick to the team; as CEO, his ambition knows no bounds – which is exactly our ambition for the global robotics software industry, which we aim to lead.”

BOW Founder, Daniel Camilleri, adds: “I am delighted to welcome Nick as the new CEO of BOW. His leadership and experience will be vital for our next phase of growth. In my new capacity as CTO I am excited to work alongside him as we keep pushing the boundaries of robotics.”
