Hansen Medical Obtains New Patents for Medical Robotics

Hansen Medical has declared that it has received 11 new US patents for medical robotics. Few of the newly issued patents cover Sensei X Robotic Catheter System, and the rest of the patents offer superior solutions for prospective developments to robotic technology.

The 11  new patents received by the company include patent number 7,699,835 titled “Robotically Controlled Surgical Instruments”, 7,713,190 titled ”Flexible Instrument”, 7,727,185 entitled “Coaxial Catheter System”, 7,744,608 titled “Robotically Controlled Medical Instrument”; 7,744,622 entitled  “Surgical Instrument”, 7,758,569 titled “Interchangeable Surgical Instrument”, 7,766,894 entitled “Coaxial Catheter System”, 7,775,972 authorized “Flexible Instrument”,  7,789,874 titled “Support Assembly for Robotic Catheter System”, 7,789,875 titled “Surgical Instruments” and 7,819,884 entitled “Robotically Controlled Medical Instrument”.

Bruce Barclay, President and CEO of Hansen Medical, has stated that as they accomplish new innovations in the area of electrophysiology, as well as, developing a second beachhead in the vascular surgery segment by the next year, it is equally important for their company to protect their robotic technologies related to their core areas, as well as, future developments. He added that other than their extended patent portfolio, they also share rights to more than 240 US patents via licensing agreements with other companies thereby adding a great future value for their stockholders.
