St. Lucas Andreas Hospital to Improve Remote Monitoring System for Cardiac Failure

Jutta Schroeder-Tanka, a cardiologist at the St. Lucas Andreas Hospital, is working on improving a remote monitoring system developed by the National IT Institute for Healthcare in the Netherlands (Nictiz).

The system has been deployed by the hospital staff for monitoring patients suffering from cardiac failure.

Jutta Schroeder-Tanka has stated that uninterrupted monitoring of cardiac patients at home is a significant thing. She added that they are looking forward to including an electronic patient record system in their hospital.

Inadequate proper norms serve as a major hindrance, since multiple systems could not interact among themselves. Johan Bruin, Knowledge and Advice Manager of Nictiz, has mentioned that they would help the market in sorting out this issue by working with insurance firms, health care and IT suppliers striving for synchronization.

According to Patrick van Deursen, Manager in the Home Healthcare department of Nictiz, significant modifications in finance and legislation should be introduced and a culture alteration between patients and health experts is mandatory, since it will eventually benefit the medical segment.
