NSF Funds New Effort in Robotics, Neuroscience and Electromechanical Devices

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced an $18.5 million grant to establish a multi-institution Engineering Research Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering located at the University of Washington. The center is to be launched this month and will be based in the Russel Hall on the Seattle campus of the University of Washington.

Crippled Man Conquers Landmark With the Aid of a Robotic Suit

A Japanese man took a robot piggy back ride on a heritage site fulfilling a dream. With the help of a robotic outfit clad friend the crippled man was able to scale the steep lanes of the Mont Saint Michel landmark in France. The robotic suit gives the wearer superhuman strength and allowed Seiji Uchida’s old dream of visiting the site come true.

Obama Announces $70 Million Robotics Initiative

President Obama has announced a $70 million initiative to accelerate the development and use of robots in the United States that work beside, or co-operatively with people. The proposal has been called the National Robotics Initiative and is backed by a number of government run agencies including the National Science Foundation (NSF), NASA and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Researchers from Michigan University Develop Jumping Robot

Tiny Robots, due to their miniature size, have limited functional features. They are capable of jumping high and clearing large obstacles, but take some time between jumps to steady and redirect themselves. Designing becomes a cumbersome process if each of these functions are treated as separate subsystems.
