New Centre to Help Robot-Subs Use Live Satellite Data to Inform Their Route

The NOC is to form part of the new Centres of Excellence in Satellite applications, which is expected to aid economic growth in the Solent region. As part of this new centre the NOC will develop the technologies to help robot-subs use live satellite data to inform their route through the ocean, not unlike drivers using live traffic updates.

Women Undergoing Benign Hysterectomies by Robotic Assisted Surgeons Experience Fewer Complications

Intuitive Surgical, Inc. today announced the published results from a new study titled, “Multicenter analysis comparing robotic, open, laparoscopic and vaginal hysterectomies performed by high volume surgeons for benign indication.” When evaluating comparable surgeon experience, the study found that women undergoing benign hysterectomies by robotic-assisted surgeons using da Vinci® Surgical Systems had better outcomes and experienced fewer complications compared to conventional abdominal, vaginal and laparoscopic hysterectomies outcomes.

Nightstar to Use Preceyes Robotic Device for Treatment of Retinal Diseases

Preceyes, a spin-off of TU/e, and Nightstar (UK) have entered into a collaboration for the development of a high-precision drug delivery technology in the eye. Nightstar will use the Preceyes robotic device to further refine the delivery of gene therapy to the subretinal space for a range of inherited retinal diseases. In the course of the collaboration, Nightstar will purchase the PRECEYES Surgical System for use in human gene therapy trials.
