NASA’s Sunday Experiment Event Focuses on New Robotic Technologies for Space Operations

NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center's Visitor Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, will host this month's Sunday Experiment on Nov. 15, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. EST. This afternoon of free activities gives elementary aged and other family members a look into how NASA explores space and studies Earth from space using satellites and other technology.

SMAC to Debut Five Axes, Direct Drive Micro SCARA Robot at IREX

At the International Robotics Show (IREX) in Tokyo, Japan, SMAC Moving Coil Actuators will introduce a prototype version of the world's first five axes, direct drive micro SCARA robot. The micro SCARA robot is an evolution of SMAC’s robotic finger, adding two additional axes that emulate a wrist. SMAC expects an early 2016 release.

NSF Awards $1 Million to Develop Dynamic Robotic Brace for Treating Scoliosis

Bucknell University junior Michelle Archambault '17 knows well the good and the bad a spine brace can do. Diagnosed with scoliosis, a sideways curvature of the spine, while in middle school, she wore a rigid plastic brace for 16 hours a day, every day, for five years. It corrected the problem and kept her from needing surgery, but it was not an experience she'd like to repeat.
